During Unit 1: Diagnostic Investigation into Creative Practice, students will undertake a diagnostic investigation into visual language and creative practices. This exploratory investigation allows students to become familiar with and experiment within a wide range of (art, design, craft and media) creative disciplines as part of their journey. Students will be introduced to a wide range of creative activities to develop their practical and conceptual skills, helping to make choices for their future area of study. Individual guidance is given from an experienced range of staff on the options best suited to their work and future ambitions. The typical programme of study may include:
During Unit 2: Developing Specialist Practice - students will be provided with the opportunity to reflect on the knowledge, skills and practices they have developed in Unit 1 of the qualification, and to define their creative ambitions by encouraging a holistic approach to a range of activities, which will support, contextualise and position their creative endeavour within their chosen specialist practice.
Students will confirm the specialisation that they wish to follow at degree level, and progress their application for their chosen degree place. Students will also develop their own personal methodology, enabling them to work with a high level of creativity and independence. The typical programme of study may include:
During the final Unit: Consolidating Practice.- students are provide with the opportunity to take control of their own learning and demonstrate their achievement by independently initiating, researching, completing and evaluating a project proposal and realisation within their chosen professional context. Students will produce an exhibition of their final major project alongside the BA Degree Show and complete preparation for BA course entry.
10 credits equates to 100 hours of study, which is a combination of lectures, seminars and practical sessions, and independent study. A three year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits (120 credits per year). Following completion of a degree programme our graduates then go to establish themselves within a wide range of professions in the art and design world. Tuition fees will remain the same for each year of your course providing you complete it in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study).
£60 Materials Fee is a compulsory cost, to cover basic studio materials and paper throughout the year. Estimated additional costs - there are costs associated with producing a portfolio such as print out costs and the cost of an A1 folio case. Some students wish to also have their own laptop and books. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop up to £100 for books and printing. Total optional cost: £600.
